Cyber Defense and Countermeasures (CYSA+)

This course is designed to deepen students’ knowledge of cybersecurity threats, attacks, and defensive strategies. Participants will learn how to conduct environmental reconnaissance using techniques such as OS fingerprinting, email harvesting, and social media profiling, utilizing tools like Nmap, Netstat, and Syslog.

Through hands-on exercises, students will analyze network data, identify vulnerabilities, assess threats, and evaluate risks, with the goal of securing organizational systems and applications. Completion of this course also prepares students for the CompTIA CySA+ certification exam.

Students will gain the skills to:

• Apply reconnaissance techniques to assess potential attack surfaces and system vulnerabilities.
• Interpret the results of network and system analysis to identify risks and recommend or implement appropriate countermeasures.
• Scan and evaluate corporate IT environments to proactively strengthen defenses against cyber threats.
• Respond effectively to security incidents using forensics toolkits, maintaining proper chain of custody, and analyzing the severity and impact of incidents.
• Implement strategies and procedures to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems within an organization.
