Cyber Defense and Countermeasures (CYSA+)

This course is designed to increase the students understanding of cybersecurity threats and attacks, including the application of environmental reconnaissance techniques such as OS fingerprinting, e-mail harvesting, and social media profiling using various tools (e.g., Nmap, netstat, and Syslog). Students will use threat detection tools, perform data analysis and interpret the results to identify vulnerabilities, threats, and risks to an organization with the end goal of securing and protecting applications and systems within an organization. This course prepares students for the CompTIA CySA+ Exam.

Illustrate knowledge of environmental reconnaissance techniques like OS fingerprinting, e-mail harvesting, Netstat, and Syslog.

Analyze the results of network reconnaissance and recommend or implement countermeasures.

Develop an understanding of how to secure a corporate environment by scanning for vulnerabilities.

Explain how an individual would respond to cyber incidents with a forensics toolkit, maintain the chain of custody, and analyze incident severity.

Describe, identify and implement techniques and procedures to secure the organization’s information systems environment.
