DENT Series training is offered in both 100% Online and Hybrid formats. The Online option consists of six weeks of instruction with 3–8 hours of engagement per week, including live instructor-led webinars. The Hybrid format includes the same six-week online component, followed by one week of hands-on training at the Dental Equipment Repair Training Center of Excellence in San Antonio, TX. Course Overview

The DENT 200 Series, Dental Utilities and Support Systems, is a six-week training program designed for entry-level to intermediate dental technicians. Covering three core content areas, the course focuses on building the skills needed to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair dental utility and support systems.

Through hands-on learning, participants develop practical problem-solving techniques using flowcharts, service manuals, and process-of-elimination strategies. The course concludes with a cumulative assessment where students create a detailed troubleshooting and repair plan.

Course Objectives

Dental Compressors

  • Understand the basic principles of dental compressors, including the compression cycle and key components such as pistons, valves, and motors
  • Identify and differentiate between compressor types and their applications in dental settings
  • Perform routine maintenance, including airflow checks, filter replacement, and air quality monitoring
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot common issues such as air leaks, excessive noise, and pressure loss
  • Demonstrate proper installation and setup, including placement, ventilation, electrical connections, and pressure regulation

Dental Vacuum Systems

  • Explain the operation of wet ring and dry vacuum systems, including pumps, separators, and collection systems
  • Compare system designs, performance, and maintenance requirements to determine appropriate applications
  • Identify and troubleshoot common issues such as loss of suction and contamination
  • Perform routine maintenance, including filter cleaning, oil checks (if applicable), and leak inspection
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper ventilation, electrical safety, and use of personal protective equipment

Sterilization Equipment

  • Understand the fundamental principles of sterilization, including time, temperature, and pressure
  • Differentiate between sterilizer types, including steam (autoclave), dry heat, and chemical systems
  • Describe autoclave operation, including sterilization cycles, loading procedures, and safety features
  • Identify installation requirements, including electrical, water, and ventilation needs
  • Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, calibration checks, and gasket/seal inspection
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues such as temperature fluctuations and pressure inconsistencies
  • Apply regulatory standards using chemical and biological indicators to ensure effective sterilization
